The Fat Olive

A mediterranean brunch experience with a bunch of close friends...let me pause my Phuket posts for once :)

Sunday brunch is a big part of the expat culture in Shanghai. Brunch-ing has become habitual on weekends, not only to the expats but to a few locals as well.  Shanghai-ists (term used to refer to Shanghai residents) love meeting up on weekends in cafés to get a hearty meal over a good glass of champagne or mimosa and a good company. Spring is the best season for brunches, the weather is just perfect specially for an al fresco brunch.

It's not really spring here YET but we're getting our share of the warm and sunny weather now. Though some days are cold, last weekend was fantastic, a bit chilly and sunny. My friends & I had been planning this brunch for months now. Due to everyone's hectic schedule, we kept moving it to a "next week" and another "next week" until months passed by. Finally, after days of planning and several other restaurant options, we came up with a perfect place, a mediterranean restaurant called The Fat Olive located at the Sinan Mansions in Shanghai. Sinan Mansions is located in the old French concession area, and is a commercial stretch of redeveloped 1920's & 1930's colonial mansions which housed Shanghai's elite - including the political figures of Sun Yatsen and Zhou Enlai, now turned into a hotel, café's, bars, and restaurants.

I was still feeling a bit cold despite the sunny weather so I wore a wool coat, leather gloves, and a pair of leggings. Just in case the weather changes, I'm also safe. 

Since I'm already feeling the spring fever, I opted for a cotton floral frock and paired it with a colorful red pullover, purple gloves, and purple leggings. I knew my husband would ask for a lovely stroll on that fantastic weather so I made sure my shoes were comfy. I was too lazy to do anything to my hair, the bun saved my day :)

Another gastronomic feast...a little bit of everything. The meal was very appetizing, specially with a lovely company. 

What do you think of this very colorful combination? I sure do think there's a lot going on in this outfit but somehow the overall look doesn't give me a sore eye, lol!
